Christopher's Corner

Futbol/soccer, at its purest, is an art form meant to be played by passionate, creative artists who celebrate the game.  No American soccer player embodies this idea more than Christopher Sullivan.

Sullivan’s origins in the sport are similar to most American youth.  As a four-year old, he accompanied his older brother Jim to practice with the West Valley Soccer Club and learned the fundamentals of the game.  Sullivan and his neighborhood friends would spend most of their free time playing soccer wherever they could.  Frequently, the streets near his childhood home served as the impromptu field he would use to develop his skills and passion for the game.  As he grew older, he played other, more conventional American sports but soccer was always his true love.  As he once told a European journalist, “soccer is in my DNA.”

As his game grew, Sullivan’s opportunities in the sport grew as well. He parlayed his play on the United States national team in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s into a successful career in European soccer as one of the first Americans to play abroad professionally.  Sullivan’s career accomplishment are too lengthy to list but undoubtedly, one of his most memorable moments came during World Cup ‘90 when he represented the United States against Italy at Olympic Stadium in Rome.

Sullivan has always been a student of the game; living and breathing everything soccer has to offer.  He has had the good fortune to play soccer all over the world with, for and against some of the greatest names in modern soccer  - Roberto Baggio, Michael Laudrup and  Morton Olsen to name just a few.  These experiences and relationships still serve as an invaluable tool in shaping Sullivan’s soccer philosophy. He has taken what he believes are the best training methods and techniques from his varied experiences and shaped them into a unique training regimen that will benefit any player or team.

As a player, Sullivan’s goal was to perfect his art technically, physically, and mentally.  As with any art, the true masters are always trying to better themselves and Sullivan is no different. As a trainer, Sullivan’s new goal is to share his soccer philosophy so a new generation of players can embrace the sport he has loved since his youth.
